The Volpe Story | Volpe Cabinet Making Sydney
Vic Volpe (Qualified Cabinet Maker/Joiner) started Volpe Cabinet Making in 2010 during the difficult years of the Global Financial Crisis. It was hard going, especially during the first year, but Vic’s passion for cabinet making, and his wife being pregnant with their daughter Sofia, meant he was determined to make the business succeed.
Vic’s passion for cabinet making stemmed from his childhood where he always loved working with his hands, handcrafting chopping boards and household furniture which he would sell out of his Dad’s café/deli at the Warringah Mall.
Vic started his Volpe Cabinet Making business out of a Kennard’s storage unit on the Northern Beaches of Sydney lugging bricks and completing odd jobs for home owners – he was always getting in trouble for dust floating around the storage units. He was kicked out of two of them but perservered still delivering on time for his clients!
Even in such difficult economic conditions, Vic’s great personality won over prospective clients, and his attention to detail meant that his business grew extremely fast. It wasn’t long before he outgrew his storage unit and he moved into a 100sqm factory in Cromer on the Northern Beaches of Sydney. Vic hired his first apprentice and it wasn’t long before he started completing full kitchen fit outs on a regular basis.
In year 2, Vic hired another cabinetmaker, Adam Flint, a long-time friend and previous colleague. Adam brought a flare to the business which amplified Vic’s already successful small business.
In recent years, we’ve grown to a team of 50 extremely experienced staff, with Baptiste being the Foreman of the Production Team. Volpe has expanded from one factory, to four factories in Cromer, to consolidate into its current 1,200sqm large factory in Warriewood with an offsite showroom at Cromer. The new space is 3 times bigger, and Volpe has now expanded into affordable wardrobes and curtains and blinds. The team work with the latest machinery and drawing programs, with 126 years of combined staff experience in the joinery trade, and you have the perfect equation for providing customers with the finest finished cabinetry.
Our vision is to create a manufacturing business that is totally sustainable with no waste going to landfill and powered by solar energy. Even the food scraps being used for compost in the factory garden!
As at the start of 2020, we are running the business off 85% solar power and send 40% of our offcuts back to the manufacturer to be re-purposed and recycled into new particle board. We also recycle 100% of our soft plastics and cardboard waste diverting this away from landfill to be re-purposed and re-used. We’ve replaced all lighting with energy efficient LED lighting.
Our goal for 2020 is to find a solution to recycling MDF board or use a different substrate which can be recycled safely (we believe this is an industry wide issue because it isn’t currently able to be recycled safely) and to find a cost efficient solution to change our fleet from petrol/gas to electricity. Stay tuned for progress updates on our sustainability mission during 2020.
